Introduction to the fundamentals of basic digital communication methods. Topics include data transmission, signal encoding techniques, digital data communication techniques, optical fiber communications.
A basic course in communications systems. Includes information theory, AM receiving and transmission, SSB, frequency and phase angle modulation systems, TV, and frequency synthesis. Also includes system modeling using block diagrams and analysis of typical circuits. This course includes a 3 hour per week lab period.
Topics include television systems, wave propagation, antennas, digital communications, overview of the wireless communications industry, wireless communications systems and standards (1G/2G/3G systems), wireless communications channels, multiple access schemes, wireless channel impairments and techniques to minimize them (if time permits).
Students will understand what it means to be a professional, engineering as social experimentation, safety and risk, case studies, ethics in design, and professional issues in the workplace. In addition, students will learn the basic skills on how to be efficient in preparing seminar presentations.
