Cable Constructors, Inc. Donates to Michigan Tech University’s
Computer Network Systems Administration

Iron Mountain, MI and Houghton, MI – Cable Constructors, Inc.® (CCI), an organization that deploys the latest in advanced optical, network, and broadband services to a diverse client base, today announced that it will support one of the nation’s leading engineering universities, Michigan Tech, by donating equipment to the University’s Computer Network and Systems Administration (CNSA) program. CCI has donated three Cisco Cerent ONS shelves along with OC12 cards designed for the Cerent chassis, to provide advanced network engineering experience to the CNSA students. Since its inception in 2003, the CNSA program – which has a core emphasis in network and security engineering – has become one of the university’s fastest growing programs.

“Michigan Tech has designed the CNSA curriculum and engineering lab sessions to ensure that students enter the market prepared to deal with critical network and security concerns. CCI’s donation is a key component in that preparation initiative.” said Guy Hembroff, Assistant Professor and CNSA chair at Michigan Tech. “The advanced backbone hardware donated by CCI, in conjunction with our existing lab equipment, will provide students with critical “hands-on” experience in network engineering and backbone development.”
Michigan Tech’s unique approach to the CNSA program incorporates real world situations in networking, security, design, programming, systems administration and business applications, to ensure future graduates suit the needs of industry recruiters who are seeking to save valuable time and lower the costs associated with on the job training. The CNSA program will graduate its first students in the spring of 2006 and CCI has currently hired two of the program’s future graduates to serve as Integration Engineers within CCI’s organization.
According to Todd Gingrass, Manager of Integration Engineering at CCI and alumni of Michigan Tech, “CCI is very excited about the CNSA program as it offers students a wide variety of opportunities to learn about the information industry. Donating this equipment will allow students to learn a critical part of our industry and enable them to make an immediate impact in the job force.”
About Michigan Tech’s CNSA Program
Michigan Tech is a national technological university located in Houghton, Michigan that was established in 1885 as Michigan Mining School. The Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Network & System Administration (CNSA) prepares students for computer information technology industry areas such as network engineering, security engineering, and systems administration. This multi-disciplinary curriculum has been strategically designed to offer students a comprehensive and advanced education in computer networks and system administration. About CCI
Based in Iron Mountain, MI, CCI began in 1955 with the development of a small Community Access Television System (CATV) in Iron Mountain, Michigan. This original system was expanded over the next 30 years to include over 39 cable systems, five broadcast stations, 50 radio stations, and one of the largest terrestrial microwave systems in the United States. As CCI designed and built these systems these services were provided to many other systems operators giving CCI the experience to become an industry expert in the design, construction, and maintenance of broadband communications systems. As the broadband industry developed CCI kept pace and became well known for the expert rollouts of new technologies and services. This tradition of high standards and excellence of execution remains to this day. The employee owners of CCI eagerly take up the challenge of today’s converging industries deploying the latest in advanced optical, network, and broadband services to an ever expanding client base.
