Objective:

Upon completion of this unit, you will be able to:

·         Use relay ladder logic symbols.

·         Construct relay logic gates.

·         Understand relay control schemes.

·         Describe in detail two methods for starting motors at reduced voltage.

·         Explain the principle of operation of electronic motor starters.

·         Apply safety relays and other components safety control circuits.

2 – Start, Stop, Jog Relay

 

 

Reading:

·         Read Chapter 12.

 

 

Assignment:

·         Week 1 Homework:  Questions Q12-1 through Q12-5 and
      Problems P12-1 and P12-3.

·         Week 2 Homework:  Questions Q12-6 through Q12-12, Q12-14 and Problem 12-6.

Show your work for all questions requiring calculations.

·         Lab 2:  Complete and submit per the lab handout.

 

 

Evaluation:

·         Week 1 Homework due 14 March.

·         Lab 2 due 17 or 18 March.

·         Week 2 Homework due 21 March.

·         Unit 1 Test – 28 March (on Chapter 12 and 1st two sections of Chapter 14).

 

 

Note:

·         Labs will be performed in teams of two or individually until further notice.

·         Demonstrate proper operation of the above experiments to your instructor.
